Environmental Issue Essay
The current concern of our environmentalist nowadays is how to bring back the bountiful natural resources of our venue of living before. This is just a dream but this can be true because nowadays everything is possible. It is, indeed, a great challenge of this environmentalist to provide solutions of the problems manifested in our environment. Before presenting my arguments, I would like first to secure the parameters of this debate. I limit this debate to one of the hottest issues in the environment which is Air Pollution. Air Pollution is the human introduction into the atmosphere of chemicals, particulates or biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organism. Looking at the status quo, it is obscene that there are a lot of sources that made our air contaminated. First point, I content that the severity of catastrophe happened in our environment deeply rooted from anthropogenic sources (human activity) such as ââ¬Å"Stationary Sourcesâ⬠as smoke stacks of power plants, manufacturing facilities and municipal waste incinerators. ââ¬Å"Mobile Sourcesâ⬠as motor vehicles, aircraft etc., marine Vessels such as container ship or cruise ships and related port air pollution, burning wood, fireplace, stoves, furnaces, fumes from hair spray, varnish, paint, aerosol spray and other solvent, oil refining and industrial activity in general. These things respond the question of why our air is being contaminated. Second point, I would like also to argue that the government plays a vital role in protecting our environment. The government has the prowess to make some possible and practical solutions of environmental problems. They have enough budgets to initiate some activity and project that would cater the protection and preservation of our natural resources. To sum up my arguments, first the main problem is the human activity that deteriorates our environment and second is the irresponsible action of the government. We can make a difference as by letting ourselves as an example because change starts in ourselves. http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Air_pollution#Sources This page was last modified on 22 March 2008, at 18:53. Legal Ethics Assignment Essay
1. Food and Drug Administration. This agency and proposed regulation interests me because since it is something that has become popular in the recent years and that it affects many people in the united states and in the world today. Yes, many people in the gaming industry smoke on a regular basics. It will not affect the business directly; just the workers in the industry. 2. The proposal is a consideration of applicable approval mechanisms and additional indications for nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs), and input on a report to Congress examining the regulation and development of innovative products and treatments for tobacco dependence. In more basic terms it is trying to get tobacco dependent treatments or mechanisms, such as electronic cigarettes, a chance to be officially approved by the FDA. 3. Six months after most people purchased e-cigarettes, 31% of these smokers said theyââ¬â¢d quit cigarettes and two-thirds of them said theyââ¬â¢d cut back on the number of cigarettes they smoked. A third of those whoââ¬â¢d quit smoking also quit using e-cigarettes. But E-cigarettes have not been tested for efficacy and safety. Additionally, they are produced overseas with little oversight to ensure good manufacturing practices. To regulate this product identified chemicals and quantities that is used in this product, release pros and cons for this product, and put a warning label on the product about the risk of addiction to nicotine. I wish to accomplish in my comment was to help the FDA is that there is pros in the use of E-cigarettes. Also, that the use of E-cigarettes is a lower and healthier risk then the use of regular tobacco cigarettes. 4. The deadline was Jan 16, 2013. 5. à a. Private citizens, government officials, industry representatives, businesspeople, and corporations can all send in comments based on provided proposed regulation during the public comment period. Anyone who wishes to challenge the validity of a federal regulation after it becomes law must participate in the comment period and voice his or her concerns at that time. Some agencies hold public hearings on proposed regulations. The purpose of the hearings is to take input on the proposals and consider additional evidence and consider additional evidence and factors relevant in promulgating the final version of the rule.â⬠Business: Its Legal, Ethical, and Global Environment, 9th Edition. b. 1) Arbitrary and Capricious. Standard for challenging administrative agency rules; used to show decisions or rules were not based on sufficient. 2) Substantial Evidence Test. Basis for challenging the action of an administrative agency on the grounds that the rule promulgated was not based on enough evidence. 3) Failure to comply with the Administrative Procedures Act requirements of notice, publication, and public comment or input. The procedures for rulemaking must be followed in order for the regulatory process, and the resulting rules, to be valid. 4) Constitutional challenge. The regulation is unconstitutional. Dealing with regulations giving an agency authority to search records, or impose discriminatory requirements for licensing professionals. 5) Ultra Vires. Action taken beyond the scope of authority; with federal agencies, action taken that is beyond the congressional authority given in the enabling statute. c. From five legal theories, I would use Substantial Evidence Test to challenge this proposed regulation of not ban the use of electronic cigarettes. I choose this theory is based on the fact that there is enough evidence to prove that electronic cigarettes will not do the same damage to human as real cigarettes do. Because electronic cigarettes contain different chemical other than liquid nicotine, there is enough research to prove that other chemical will not affect peopleââ¬â¢s health, meaning electronic cigarettes are still a healthy alternative of cigarettes. Also, companies that manufacture electronic cigarettes claim their products do not contain carcinogens or tar or produce secondhand smoke, should be the first concern of making this regulation.

The Hunters: Moonsong Chapter Twenty-Two
Bonnie knew the minute that Zander and his friends came into the party, because the noise level went way up. Honestly, Zander was calmer than his friends, sort of, at least around Bonnie, but as a group, they were definitely wild. It was kind of irritating, actual y. But when Zander appeared next to her ââ¬â hip-checking Marcus into a wal on his way ââ¬â and gave her his long, slow smile, her toes curled inside her high-heeled shoes and she forgot al about being annoyed. ââ¬Å"Hi!â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"Is everything okay?â⬠He cocked an eyebrow at her inquiringly. ââ¬Å"I mean, you said something came up with your family, and that's why you've been â⬠¦busy.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh, yeah.â⬠Zander bent his head down to talk to her, and his warm breath ghosted across Bonnie's neck as he sighed. ââ¬Å"My family's pretty complicated,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"I wish sometimes that things were easier.â⬠He looked sad, and Bonnie impulsively took his hand, twining her fingers through his. ââ¬Å"Well, what's wrong?â⬠she asked, striving for a tone of understanding and reliability. A dependable girlfriend tone. ââ¬Å"Maybe I can help. You know, a fresh ear and al that.â⬠Zander frowned and bit his lip. ââ¬Å"I guess it's likeâ⬠¦ I have responsibilities. My whole family is in a position where there are promises we've made and sort of things we have to take care of. And sometimes what I want to do and what I have to do don't line up.â⬠ââ¬Å"Could you be any more vague?â⬠Bonnie asked teasingly, and Zander huffed a half laugh. ââ¬Å"Seriously, what do you mean? What do you have to do? What don't you want to do?â⬠Zander looked down at her for a moment and then his smile widened. ââ¬Å"Come on,â⬠he said, tugging her hand. Bonnie went with him, weaving their way through the party and up the stairs. Zander seemed to know where he was going; he turned a couple of corners, then pushed open a door. Inside was a dorm common room: a couple of ratty couches, a banged-up table. Someone's art project, a large canvas covered with splotches of paint, leaned against the wal . ââ¬Å"Do you live in this dorm?â⬠she asked Zander. ââ¬Å"No,â⬠he said, his eyes on her mouth. He pul ed her toward him and rested his hands on her hips. And then he kissed her. It was the most amazing kiss Bonnie had ever experienced. Zander's lips were so soft, yet firm, and there were little fireworks going off al over Bonnie's body. She lifted her hand and cupped it against his cheek, feeling the strong bones of his face and the slight scratch of stubble against her palm. Once again, she felt as she had during their first date, standing on the roof, when it had been like she was flying. So free, and with a wild kind of joy zinging through her. She slid her hand to the back of his neck, feeling Zander's fine pale blond hair brush softly against her fingers. When the kiss ended, neither of them spoke for a moment, they just leaned against each other, breathing hard. Their faces were so close, and Zander's bril iant blue eyes were fixed on hers, warm and intent. ââ¬Å"Anyway, that's what I want to do, since you asked. Do youâ⬠ââ¬â his voice cracked ââ¬â ââ¬Å"do you want to go back to the party now?â⬠ââ¬Å"No,â⬠said Bonnie, ââ¬Å"not yet.â⬠And this time, she kissed him. ââ¬Å"Oh, thank God,â⬠Chloe said when Matt came up to her. ââ¬Å"I was beginning to feel like the biggest wal flower.â⬠She crinkled her nose appealingly at him. Her nose, which tilted up just a little, was spattered with freckles, and she had a pretty cupid's bow of a mouth. He wanted to tug gently on the soft brown ringlets of her curls, just to see them straighten and then spring back into shape. ââ¬Å"What do you mean?â⬠he said, pul ing himself back together, although he was painful y aware that he sounded half-witted. ââ¬Å"A wal flower?â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh, justâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ She waved one hand vaguely at the crowd. ââ¬Å"There's hardly anyone I know here besides you and Ethan. This whole party's completely stuffed with freshmen.â⬠Matt's heart sank. He had forgotten that Chloe was a junior. It shouldn't be a big deal, real y, should it? But she sounded like she thought freshmen were beneath her, or something. Disdainful, that was the word he was looking for to describe her tone. ââ¬Å"I thought the party seemed okay,â⬠he said weakly. Chloe pursed her lips teasingly, then socked him gently on the arm. ââ¬Å"Well,â⬠she said softly, ââ¬Å"there's only enough room for one freshman in my life. Right, Matt?â⬠That was more of a hopeful sign. The problem was, Matt realized, that his only dating experience had been in asking out girls who he either didn't real y care about, but was just thinking of as potential dates for dances or whatever, or who were Elena. Who, yes, he cared tremendously about, but who he knew for long enough and Wellenough that he could tel she was going to say yes. Stil , he thought he could see an opening here. ââ¬Å"Chloe,â⬠he said, ââ¬Å"I was wondering if you would ââ¬â â⬠Matt broke off as Ethan joined them, smiling widely. For the first time, Matt felt a flash of irritation toward him. Ethan was so smart with people. Couldn't he see he was interrupting a moment here? ââ¬Å"I liked your friend Stefan,â⬠Ethan told Matt. ââ¬Å"He seemed very sophisticated for a freshman, very Wellspoken. Do you think it's because he's European?â⬠Matt only shrugged in response, and Ethan turned to Chloe. ââ¬Å"Hey, sweetheart,â⬠he said, putting an arm around her and kissing her lightly on the lips. And yeah, wow, maybe Ethan had realized he was interrupting a moment. It wasn't a long kiss, but there was definitely a possessive air about it, and about his arm flung across Chloe's shoulders. When it ended, Chloe smiled up at Ethan, breathless, and Ethan's eyes flicked to Matt, just for a second. Matt wanted to fold right over and sink into the sticky, beer-stained floor beneath his feet. But instead he eked out a smile of his own and tipped his beer to Ethan. Because Chloe ââ¬â adorable, sweet, funny, easygoing Chloe ââ¬â had a boyfriend. He ought to have anticipated that he wouldn't be the only one who saw how amazing she was. And Matt would have backed off no matter who Chloe's boyfriend was. He didn't want to be that guy who sleazed al over other people's relationships; he never had been. But since Chloe's boyfriend was Ethan? Ethan, the Vitale Society leader, the one who had made Matt feel like he was special, like he could be the best? Since it was Ethan, Matt was just going to have to grit his teeth and ignore that hol ow feeling in his chest. He was going to be strong and keep himself from even thinking about what he wished could have been with Chloe. There were some lines he just couldn't cross. Ever.

Foreign Review of Related Literature Essay
Students who get the system of studying know that good grades lead to more freedom and responsibility in life. Some only want to have fun and focus on other things but it is said that their refusal to study did not fulfill them that is why they feel guilty and realize a need to change. This being said, all students are encouraged to take their studies seriously. Because in our generation, the youth tend to give in to the things that will give them immediate yet temporary happiness than happiness that might take long to have yet it will last longer. Students must all know that every moment of education is important because the pleasures of today have no assurance that they will still exist tomorrow. We might say that we have attained freedom through our reckless acts as a child, through our ignorance towards studies but these will all backfire on us in the future. They consequences that will be put upon us will be sevenfold. As the saying goes, ââ¬Å"What goes around, comes around.â ⬠same with our present to future education. A study plan has to be made. Students should use their time wisely in everything that they do. They should study in a place that will be suitable and comfortable for them. There must be enough space for the students to be able to place and move their books freely while studying. Perhaps studying a very general topic that needs a lot of references, a student needs enough space to be able to open the important pages that relates to their topic without it being a burden. At the same time, they should be comfortable enough to be able to focus on their studies properly and not have to worry about having neck/back aches, or even poor eyesight. There must be a fair lighting to prevent blurring of the eyes. Most importantly, they should establish a study plan to have an orderly routine in studying and also to have proper distribution of time with studies and resting. Time management is one of the greatest factors to consider in attaining high grades. All students must learn good study habits that will help them keep record of their assignments and the things that are need to be done. Students must also learn to stop cramming and procrastinating. Students must all complete their tasks immediately to avoid passing assignments or requirements after the deadline. They should also study immediately after school hours to keep their mastery over the said lessons and to be able to pass the exams with flying colors. Also every student is encouraged or most probably required to understand and learn their lessons than to just memorize what they have read. Some knowledge of research methods of the logic of research analysis is necessary both to avoid being misled by bad research and to help in interpreting the findings that are presented. Analyzing rather than memorizing, thatââ¬â¢s the main point of this statement. It is to let the readers and the students know that mastery does not come from what the writings in the book say but from the way we understood what we have read. Lastly, everyone not only students must know that the same intelligence which is in you is also in the things that you desire. That the human person must believe in his/her own self and not repeat words or formulas but his/her power to do something. Itââ¬â¢s not always the bookish and academic things that will define our intelligence or performance, but mostly in our attitude towards studies. Itââ¬â¢s not always about being book smart, but it is also about the perseverance and the things we do to strive for success, the efforts that we make to achieve our goals and the sacrifices that we make for the assurance of success. It only means that everything is up to us, on the way we perceive things, the way we take things through, and the way we approach things. We must always keep a positive attitude because this is the first big step towards becoming what we want to be in the future.

Role of African Americans in Film Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Role of African Americans in Film - Essay Example As a concluding point this paper will postulate a solution to potentially improve the racial sensitivity of films produced in the future. Without question, Hollywood films have portrayed a number of stereotypes of minorities since the dawn of the motion picture. According to arguments presented by Turner (2011) it is even the case that modern films that focus on addressing racism in America are often are by their nature inherently racist. Turner cited the example of the 2011 film 'The Help' which is based on a novel which was written by a white woman who many commentators believe is incapable of telling such a sensitive story. The very idea of a white person telling the story of black oppression in the American south wherein the stories protagonist is also white could be considered insensitive. In regards to what some of the most common assumptions that Hollywood makes as well as what part minorities play in films, one could argue that there are a wide spectrum of different stereotyp es that have been portrayed over a long period of time. A) Firstly one could make the argument that in some of the earliest motion pictures such as D.W. Griffith 1915 film Birth of a Nation the blacks in the film were portrayed as being incompetent, drunkards who were obsessed with white women.

Poverty and the Development of Adolescence Research Paper
Poverty and the Development of Adolescence - Research Paper Example The current study examines the previous research studies on four domains of adolescence development namely, physical, cognitive, social and emotional with special emphasis on household poverty. The specific objectives of the current study are to identify the concepts which are useful for measuring poverty and adolescent development and their association to investigate the impact of poverty on four domains of adolescent development. The paper is organized as follows. The first chapter presents the models, indicators and statistical concepts useful for measuring the household poverty level, adolescence development processes and the factors which influence the adolescence development. Second chapter on literature review describes the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of the adolescents in poor families by reviewing the literature. Finally the conclusions are drawn relevant to adolescent development and poverty. Concepts The distinguished physical developmental charac teristics such as development of breasts for girls and the deepened voices and broadened shoulders for boys are probably the most prominent characteristics of the adolescent development. ... In the proceeding chapter, these domains are discussed in detail with reference to relevant research literature. Literature Review Physical Development The lower socio economic status in the family can result in impaired development and poorer health of children and increased mortality and morbidity of adults (Emerson et al., 2005). Purchasing power of the poor families is low. Limited access to foods and nutrients is a common problem faced by the third world countries. It is also well established that social support and health beliefs play an important role in physical activity level of the adolescence. These have been recorded as inadequate even among the poor youth in the USA (Debbie et al. 2008). In the US more than 25 percentage proportion of the adolescents are also overweight. More than 11 percentage proportion of the adolescents are obese which cause long term physical and mental health consequences in individuals. Wickrama et al. 2006, revealed that poverty, single parenthoo d and most of the racial minority statuses (African American, Hispanic American, and Native American racial/ethnic groups) are positively associated with obesity and overweight among adolescents in the USA. Asian American status however was found negatively correlated with these health problems. Emerson et al. 2005, used the statistics of National Statistics survey of the mental health of children and adolescents in Great Britain to study the health status of the adolescents and household income. Sample consisted of 10,438 children between the ages of 5 and 15. In the above study the physical development of the adolescents were measured in terms of nine categories namely, current
